"unfortunately you can't delete" ...........

OK, not "Posts" but I've been responsible for some reviews that, in hindsight, read like turkeys .......

I revisited them, over-typed them (with spaces) and, heh presto, the turkey disappeared !!!!!!

Maybe I should pursue a career in magic - bit late now as, being a 'Dead Head', too close to retirement !!!!

Having deleted a post from this thread once already, it seems it can be done. One approach would be to {edit} and delete what you have written, and/or over type with spaces like you say, or whatever one wants to leave behind. And btw, any text including “this post was modified…” can be overwritten or erased so the modify date only appears once. Not saying it is of any import either way… documentation is always appreciated.

If you have posted a reply, and no one has replied to it yet, you can check ‘Delete this post (be sure you know what you are doing) and then click on ‘Revise Post’

If someone has already replied to your post, the Delete this post is disabled (because this post has children.)

To expand upon what elb said, for better or worse we can only delete our own posts. And only if no one has responded. As an insecure practitioner myself, I acknowledge that there are times when deleting a post might seem desirable. For me bourbon is often involved. I believe this inability to delete a post from a thread if someone has already responded to it is a new improvement to forum stuff by the Archive.
